Absinthe 2.0 Untethered iOS 5.1.1 Jailbreak

Now you can use Absinthe 2.0 to jailbreak your iOS 5.1.1 device and install Cydia, and best of all this is untethered. If you’re in a hurry, you just need to follow our 8 step guide below and you’re off and running in Cydia land. The jailbreak works on The New iPad 3, iPad 2, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, Apple TV 2 and iPod touch devices running iOS 5.1.1 as of today. Members of both the iPhone Dev-Team and the Chronic Dev-Team (now called the “Jailbreak Dream Team”) released Absinthe 2.0 today at the Hack in the Box conference in Amsterdam. Absinthe 2.0 Step by Step Guide

1. Backup first! In iTunes under the “Devices” menu in the left panel, right click on your device name and choose “Back Up”
2. Download Absinthe 2.0 for Mac – Windows – Linux
   Update: If you experience issues using Absinthe 2.0, please try the updated version below instead.
   Download Absinthe 2.0.1 for Mac – Windows – Linux
   Update 2: This version of Absinthe adds support for GSM iPhone 4 users who have iOS 5.1.1 build 9B208 on their devices.
   Download Absinthe 2.0.2 for Mac – Windows – Linux
3. Run the App on your computer
4. Turn on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and connect it to your computer. Absinthe will try to detect your device. The good news is you don’t need to mess with DFU mode any more.
5. Click the “Jailbreak” button and wait as Absinthe runs through a series of restores on your device. Absinthe will tell you when the jailbreak process is finished. You will then see Cydia’s icon on your Home Screen.
6. Restore your backup. In iTunes right click on your device name under the “Devices” menu, pick “Restore from Back Up…” and choose the file you created in step 1 above. (restoring this backup will return all the content previously on your device ie, apps, photos, etc.)
7. Unplug your device from your computer
8. Open Cydia and let it do its first time setup thing. Your iOS 5.1.1 device is now jailbroken, Enjoy! To get access to more apps, make sure to add popular sources to Cydia.

Note: If you get an error in Cydia at this time, don’t freak out. Due to the extremely popular demand, the servers at the Cydia repo are having some issues, and it should be back up shortly after the mad rush dies down.

Note for Tethered iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak users only

If you’ve already jailbroken your device using a tethered approach with RedSn0w running iOS 5.1.1 you can go “untethered” after you install Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether. Here’s how:
- Launch Cydia.
- Search for “Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether”
- Install and Reboot
You should not have any tethered issues going forward.
