Checkmate for Foursquare review

Checkin apps are all the rage. So, you wanna automatically check into your favorite foursquare venues without having to do any work? Got an iPhone 4? Grab this new app called Checkmate for Foursquare which runs in the background and checks you into your places automagically. Now you won’t have to pull out your iPhone, open up the Foursquare app or anything of that sort to become the mayor of that newly opened coffee shop in your hood. With Checkmate for Foursquare you register and pic some of your favorite spots. The app runs in the background and when you get close to your favorite spot, it checks you in.

The app lets you choosing where to check into. If you check in manually, then the app won’t check you in. The design and interface of Checkmate for Foursquare is simple yet effective and includes simple icons for venue types. The 2 dollar price tag may deflect some potential users however.

So is there a downside to this besides the price? A hefty one actually. Running GPS based apps which poll for updates in the background will dramatically speed up the draining of your iPhone 4’s battery. So you have to decide; how bad do you want to check into that favorite spot of yours?
