Creamy Ice review

Creamy Ice is a cutesy, little time-management game that puts you at the helm of your own ice cream stand. I know it’s past Labor Day and everyone is gearing up for fall, but it was in the 90’s last week, so I’m totally okay with still having ice cream on the brain.

I’m all for savoring the simple pleasures in life, and Creamy Ice might be on the slightly too simple side, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a sweet, very kid-friendly treat. To play, all you have to do is properly construct ice cream cones for your customers. You start off with only four options to choose from and eventually work your way up to 12, eventually throwing in extras like whipped cream and cups as well as cones, just to keep you on your toes.

Because you’re only dealing with one customer at a time, it’s more the case that fastest finger wins rather than your typical time management game where you’re juggling several tasks at once. The one thing to remember is that cones have to be constructed backwards, meaning you build from the bottom up, a feat that becomes trickier the faster and more complicated the orders become, but this does get monotonous rather quickly.

You start off with Career mode and eventually unlock Time Trial and Endurance modes, but there’s really not much variety or challenge once you get the hang of things, since they all pretty much feel the same.

Despite the overly basic gameplay, Creamy Ice does a reasonable job of presentation, with bright, colorful graphics that, although not particularly crisp or eye-catching, are generically polished and attractive. Cheery sound effects round things out, and the one fingered game play definitely makes this one a little easier on the hands.

Creamy Ice may not be the most thrilling or dynamic game around, but it’s a cheap, well-performing little thrill and a good 5-minute fix for parents looking to keep their little ones occupied.
