Do you still think the iPhone should have come with an FM transmitter? Wanna listen to stations from around the U.S. live from your iPhone? Clear Channel has come to the App Store and is giving you the iheart radio iPhone app that lets you explore new stations from across the country and listen to them live.

iheart radio brings your favorite radio stations to the iPhone or iPod Touch for free. Similar to other radio apps like allRadio and Pandora you can listen anywhere over WiFi, EDGE or 3G, but with iheart radio, you get to listen to actual radio stations, not virtual ones. Some of the popular stations you have access to include: 102.7 KIIS FM, POWER 105.1, KFAN Sports Radio AM 1130, Channel 955 from Detroit, 103.5 KISS FM from Chicago, DC101 Rock, and KFI AM-640 Stimulating Talk. Bookmark your favorite station for quick access in the iPhone app.

To sweeten the deal, iheart radio app comes with some other nice features.
1) Lyrics: In the now playing section you can tap on lyrics (if available) and you can view the lyrics for the given song if you wanna sing along.
2) Album Art: Another great feature of iheart radio is that the album cover art is shown for the currently playing song if available.

Since these are live stations, you do get to listen to all the ads played on the stations as well. As more and more stations are added this might become a pretty good replacement for satellite radio.

Update: The latest version o iheart radio has been drastically improved. The new version lists categoriezed radio station by format and location. Cities are listed in alphabetical order. Once you find a station you like you can add it to your favorites, and get to it quickly by going to the Favorites tab on the bottom of iheart radio. Other new tabs include Tagged Songs and Shake it!

While listening to a song, (now playing) you can “tag” it which basically creates an entry for that song in the Tagged Songs tab. From here you can view tagged songs list and tap to buy the song from iTunes. Some popular radio stations also support lyrics for popular songs. Tap the lyrics button and iheart radio downloads the lyrics for the song using gracenote.

Finally if you feel adventurous, try the Shake it tab! Just shake the iPhone and iheart radio randomly picks a radio station for you to enjoy.

   THIS IS A GREAT APP! All my favorite radio stations on my iphone!!! The buffering issue sucks though, but I noticed that I only have problems when I connect through ATT&T 3G, using Wifi I can connect without problems every time. I hope they can fix this, it worked great until about a week ago…

   MORE STATIONS PLEASE:)

   I love this App when it works, but the buffering, buffering, buffering issue has been BAD and getting WORSE. It’s not the hardware or connectivity, because the NPR streaming App works great (love Vermont Public Radio!). It feels like the bad old days with AOL dialup - too many users and not enough bandwidth? Another sign that Bush led us into a great leap backward to third world status.

   Everyone I know, & that’s a lot, who has this app on their iTouch or iPhone have all been having the same buffering issue. This started out as a great app & now it’s not worth the little effort it takes to install. It doesn’t matter if you connect via wifi, edge or 3g it will just sit there attempting to buffer data without success. At first I thought it might have been just a server or bandwidth issue but this has been going on way to long for such a simple fix.. Until “Clear Channel” takes an interest in resolving this issue I”d find other means of listening to live radio. As it stands AOL Radio is the only solution I’ve found that can provide reliable access to live streamed radio, from different regions of the USA..

   Works like a charm on my iPod touch, but sometimes I listen and don’t touch my iPod for 30+ minutes and the wifi cuts out.

   Can the app have a feature added so that it doesn’t cut out??

    think I will like this app on my iphone but I keep having a problem and loose the app. If I have a station on and I want to exit, I stop the stream and hit the button to go back to the desktop. In doing so, the next time i go into the app I have no stations available. I need to reload the app in order to get it back
