iFejk review

iFejk is a trickster app that attempts to give the illusion that the screen on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad has broken into pieces. It was created by Tiago Loureiro and costs $0.99.

You start by choosing a picture from your photo library. The photo you choose is then plastered on the screen. Touch the screen and the picture shatters magically with bits breaking everywhere eventually landing at the bottom of the page. You can pick up the pieces with your finger and drag them around the screen, but they end up back at the bottom of the screen. If you tilt your device the pieces slide with the movement. One of the best features of iFejk is the option to blow into the microphone on your iPhone, iPod, or iPad and watch as the pieces spring up as if they are moving with your breath.

I suppose the point of iFejk is to play a prank on your friends. The best way to use it is to take a picture of your home screen before you open the app up. That way, when you go to find a picture to use it will actually seem as if the screen on your device has cracked. The cut outs on the “broken” screen are shaped like apps so it fits perfectly if you use your home screen and the pieces that fall out are the icons for your apps.

A gripe I have is that once you chose a picture and start using iFejk you cannot go back to a master screen with settings and choices. There is no way to go back and change the picture around.

iFejk is definitely a cool app, but it is one of those that you download, use one or two times, then forget you have. I can appreciate that it is pandering to people who love to play jokes on their friends and family. How terrified would you be if someone gave you their new iPhone to check out and the minute you touch the screen the icons fall out and get jumbled around?
