Trillian Astra is the upcoming version of the instant messenger Trillian. It boasts strong web integration, dynamic user profiles, mobility, interoperability and more.

Cerulean Studios has released an alpha version of its popular Trillian chat client for the iPhone on the Astra platform. Trillian Astra for iPhone is a web based chat client for iPhone and iPod touch users. Currently Trillian Astra is looking for alpha testers and you can request an Astra acconut over at their newly designed website. Once you have an Astra account you can test the new iPhone interface in your Safari mobile browser.

Some of the features of Astra for iPhone are:

• Pure HTTPS to secure your passwords.
• Designed to match the UI of the iPhone.
• Basic IM functionality: Message sending/receiving, status changing, contact list, conversations panel, user is typing.
  Emoticon window.
• Automatic reconnecting on connection loss.
• Backend server stored accounts support.
• Currently only working with ASTRA, Yahoo! and AIM. More in the coming weeks.

There is also a full fledged web based version of the same app available on the new Astra website. Keep in mind the app is in the very early stages of development and there might be some bugs in the system. Check out the company blog for more details on Astra fro iPhone. This looks very promising and it will be interesting to see the finished version of the app and how well is compares against the likes of Meebo, BeeJive and the rest of the chat apps.
