The ProRemote app is a native 3rd party app for music producers allowing you to control your ProTools setup from your iPhone. This app is not out yet but you can see the video demo of it below to get a feel for what it can do.
Here is a little movie of ProRemote in action connected to a ProTools LE rig. The developer is Alex le Lievre who did this one a bit closer up for folks who thought his previous video was a fake. Note: ProTools is not running on the iPhone. The iPhone is running “ProRemote” to allow you to control your ProTools via WiFi from your iPhone.
The app is currently only available to beta testers who sign a NDA with the developer who is naturally trying to protect his codebase. “It will be cheap when I release the software (assuming apple lets me) so don’t get mad at me for charging money for it– beta testers naturally get the software free.”
Alex tells us how the whole thing works “This software is in three pieces: the first piece is the software on the iPhone (the remote). The second is the server (the brains) and the third is the MIDI driver (to communicate with ProTools)… The midi driver and server live on the ProTools machine.” more on the details of the app here.
Use iPhone mods and hacks at your own risk! Installing 3rd Party iPhone apps requires you to jailbreak the iPhone before installing the native software and apps. You can use Installer.app for Mac OSX and iBrickr for Windows PC to do this. Browse the full list of all iPhone and iPod touch native 3rd party apps filed under the software category.
