Rune Trails review

Rune Trails is a terrific puzzle board game for the iPhone from Quadion Technologies with Mayan style inspired graphics and sounds. You move pieces and connect them in continuous paths to remove them from the board. It is a simple idea that requires a great deal of strategy and some luck as well. Any 5 or more connected pieces are destroyed as they fade and drop into the ground below with matching rock sound effects.

To move pieces tap once on a piece to select it and a second time on where you want it to be dragged to. You can strategize in Rune Trails since each time you move one piece, 3 additional pieces are added onto the board, which you can see ahead of time. You can also use some luck because you don’t know exactly where on the board the pieces will be added.

Scoring is pretty simple; one point for each piece “Ruin” used in a chain “Trail”. See the multipliers for additional points. Tiles with a white glowing jewel used in a line will freeze the landing of pieces for the next 3 moves. Using the purple jewels in a chain doubles your score and the green ones triple the score.

There is no time limit in Rune Trails, so take your time and just avoid getting boxed in. Graphics in the game have a 3D feel to them, and the gameplay can get pretty addictive as you improve. Rune Trails is an original puzzler for the iPhone, and definitely worth having for when you have a few minutes to kill.
