Boom Brigade

Boom Brigade from 10tons is a terrific little line drawing game hybrid that combines aspects of tower defense, a deep war plot, and detailed character building strategy to make one heck of a memorable iPhone gaming experience. Boom Brigade is the complete package and keeps getting better.

You are in charge of protecting your bunker from aliens who are attacking from left to right, in all shapes and sizes. You get to choose a trooper to start the game and you get an additional trooper each time you defeat a boss, ultimately having a total of four troopers fighting for you simultaneously. Each trooper has a set amount of powers which you can upgrade as you earn more money killing aliens. Each one also has their own strengths, and their specific weaknesses. The troopers are Minigun, Shotgu, Bazooka, and Pyro (flame thrower).

While your men will automatically fire upon the enemies, its your job to control their position in the game. You do this by drawing lines that order them where to go. You can draw lines in any shape or form on the screen, and they will follow. Don’t let the line drawing aspect fool you. Boom Brigade is a very challenging war game and requires repetitive play and practice to perfect your strategy. More points are awarded for longer survival times. During the game, as you nuke the aliens they will drop money which you then have to pick up. Build up your reserves and use it to buy all sorts of weapon upgrades, health boosts and more.

If this wasn’t enough, 10tons keeps adding more features to the game, such as a new comic strip based on the characters in the game, and new chapters with new aliens and bosses. There is a also a plethora of background information in the Xenopedia section that you can read about the different types of aliens you will be exterminating.

The line drawing controls are smooth and responsive. The sound effects are top of the line and the soundtrack feels like something out of a blockbuster action flick. The graphics are close to perfect with a fluid combination of a 2D battlefield and 3D characters. All this combined with the challenging gameplay loaded with a barrage of customizable artillery blasting deadly aliens on a futuristic battlefield, makes Boom Brigade one of the best and most original line drawing war games we’ve seen in some time that will keep you coming back for more.
