Addicus review

With the advent of calculators and inclusion of their functions on our phones, it’s no wonder the average person has very very poor mental math skills. No worries; Get Set Games has released a game app called Addicus to sharpen those dull addition skills.

The premise is simple: tap to add the numbers on the bouncing mushrooms to match the number in the upper left-hand corner. If the number is blue, make sure you only use blue mushrooms; the same goes for every color except white, which you can any color mushroom to add (those science-inclined should know why this makes sense). To unselect a mushroom, just tap it again; to unselect all mushrooms, shake the iPhone. If you’re not training, there will be a timer around the number you have to add up to. The faster you add or the more mushrooms you can use, the more bonuses you’ll receive.

The graphics are not only cute (everything bounces), but eye-catching. The music and sound effects are also cute, but if you’re the type who needs silence to do math, you might want to turn them off. Addicus makes math fun–which hasn’t happened since maybe second grade–and it’s bouncy, colorful, and challenging, so it’s well worth a download. It’ll come in handy the next time a dinner bill needs to be split.
