OutOfTheBit, once again in collaboration with percussionist Leo Di Angilla, has released a new iPhone app called iPandeiro, featuring…a pandeiro. A Brazilian hand drum that resembles a tambourine, for those not in the know. Don’t worry, we didn’t know what a pandeiro was either.
The pandeiro is played using the iPhone’s touchscreen, with four distinct areas to hit to produce different tones. The four corners surrounding the pandeiro produce their own sounds, as well. Hit Help Me! to find out what these eight tones are; the Mixer allows you to adjust the volumes of all the sounds. Once comfortable with iPandeiro, you can record your beat and groove along to it anywhere.
The sounds are best heard through earphones, especially if you like the Reverb function. The developers guarantee “virtually no delay between touch and playback,” which is very true. iPandeiro is a very straightforward app, and can keep younger ones entertained for much of an afternoon.
