DreamNotes review

I snore when I sleep sometimes, especially when I’ve had a particularly stressful day. I know lots of people who snore and most of the time, you just never know until someone tells you. Here is DreamNotes, an app that will record what you may be saying while sleeping or if you are snoring. Wanna know how dumb you sound while you’re sleeping? Here’s your chance! Released by Chlova, DreamNotes is available on the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad for $1.99.

To activate DreamNotes’s recording, just hit record and go ahead and put your iDevice in sleep mode. DreamNotes will record your snoring patterns and inform you about it with detailed line charts. You have a built in alarm and the app stays active while your iPhone is on screen lock. I used the app for a few nights and the battery drain is noticeable, but not significant enough to drain my iPhone to 0% as long as you charge it before you sleep.

The interface is quite clean and nicely designed. There are 3 main functions: The ‘Go to Sleep’ button, the ‘Tips’ button for learning some sleep related information, and the ‘My Notebook’ which gives you a nicely compiled log of your sleep schedule.

One odd addition to DreamNotes is the Sharing feature. Yes you can share your sleep talk to others which is awkward, not in execution, but rather in concept. The AppStore description tells us that that this not meant to be used for medical purposes. Think of this as just a simple recorder to see if you snore or not. I found the tips to be very informative and easily the most useful part of this app. Otherwise, there isn’t much else to Dream Notes and there wasn’t much for me to do with it. Set it up and forget about it for a night.

Try this app out if you just want to know why your girlfriend kicks you every night or why your roommates are losing sleep. Just remember to charge your iDevice before leaving DreamNotes on. I had a night were my phone completely drained and I didn’t wake up until really late because the phone’s alarm never went off. Oh, and it turns out that I snore… so if anything DreamNotes helped me out with that!
