Soundguard review

Soundguard is an iPhone app set up to prevent you from missing out an anything while you listen to your music. It was developed by ePLAYWORKs and costs $1.99. It is compatible with a 2nd generation iPhone a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th generation iPod Touch, and an iPad.

Loving music and needing to listen to it at all hours of the day is something we can all relate to. When I am completely tuned out of my surroundings and listening to my iPod, my instincts are somewhat shut off, and it is hard to pick up on what is going on around me. The distraction of being in a trance with a music bubble around my head does not do much in the way of protection or awareness. The problem that arises from drowning out the noise around you was the impetus behind the creation of Soundguard. It is designed to record the sounds around you while you listen to uninterrupted music. It is not for your protection as much as it is for picking up on gossip or not getting fired for failing to hear an order from your boss. Soundguard records and archives sound bites then allows for you to listen to or email them. There are a ton of different features and various ways to set up the app so that you are getting what you want out of it. For example, you can turn on multitasking so that even if you exit out, the app will continue to play your music and record outer noise.

Soundguard imports the music from your device and allows you to create playlists. You can turn off the sound sensor at any time. The app uses an input gain amplifier, which allows for the recording of any outside noise no matter how faint. Another feature of the app is the mixing option if you want to listen to both your music and outside hubbub.

In my opinion, the most use you can get out of an app like this is if you are trying to spy on someone. That way the gossiper will speak freely when seeing you with your headset on. Otherwise, I do not really see a viable use for the app and reason to purchase it.
