Storyrobe

Storyrobe is a digital story-telling app that allows its user to piece together photos, videos, and sound bites to create a narrative. It was developed by Story Robe LLC for an iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad and costs absolutely nothing. It is the first free app I have seen without ads popping up all over the place.

When you first open the app you get three options: Create Story, Open Story or Share Story. To create a story you start by picking out an image or video from your camera roll, the photo library, a URL, or you can take a photo or video from within the app. Once you have chosen everything that you want to include in your story you can view each item you have picked before you start recording. The last step is to add narration to the photo. You can record any message, song or sound to attach to the particular image that you are using. You get three minutes of recording time. When you hit stop you get a prompt asking if you want to create the video and there is a box to label it. Once you have created a story, it is automatically saved to your camera roll and from there you have the ability to import it into your iPhoto library.

Storyrobe

I have a few bones to pick with the developers about this app. I think it is free because there were some bugs and glitches tampering with the functioning. Firstly, if you add more than one photo or video to the story, when you try to edit and record, the app will not go to the next image. You can only record corresponding to the first image on your list. The others are not incorporated and you cannot access them. I see from their page in iTunes that they are currently working on a 2nd, hopefully bug-free, version of Storyrobe, so I look forward to using it successfully when it comes out. Other than slight malfunctions I liked the overall idea behind the app. You can use it to show family and friends vacation albums or any other kind of occasion and once you have created a story you can post it to YouTube to share.
