Messagey! SMS/MMS Unlimited review

Messagey! is an iPhone app for those of you who don’t have unlimited texting set up. You can use it on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad and it is similar to using instant messanger. There is a free Lite version and a regular one for $0.99. Although you pay $.0.99, it only provides you with about 90 days of subscription, then you have the choice of paying an additional $1.99 for a lifetime of Messagey! or $0.99 for a year of it.

The Messagey app provides everything that standard texting does and more. Keeping track of different conversations is as simple as moving your finger across the screen. At the top is a row of contacts for you to move in between. You also get the choice of mixing and matching backgrounds for each conversation. The background options include different colors or a camera view that you can use, either to take your own picture or to text and walk: You can be looking down at your phone typing while you walk and still see what is in front of you. Also you can use the camera from within the app to send picture messages.

In addition, you get smileys and you get templates that are organized by themes of friends, driving, classroom, family, meetings, abbreviations, etc. You also have the option of setting up a signature. Upon installation of the app, the signature is turned on with somewhat of an advertisement for Messagey! saved, so I would suggest turning that off unless you want your messages sent with something like, “Hey I sent this absolutely FREE with Messagey! Try it!” When you first activate your Messagey! account you are asked to come up with a login ID, which can be anything as long as it isn’t taken already. You can use this app with anyone, even if the person doesn’t have Messagey!, or their carrier is different from yours.

An advantage of using Messagey! over standard texting—other than that it’s free—is that every message you send and receive has a date and time stamp next to it. My iPhone is selective about giving me the time of every message I send and receive and that drives me crazy.
