Mood Touch Scanner

Do you remember getting mood rings back in the day and being entertained by them for a total of 30 minutes? We only found them entertaining for that long because they were novel. Well now you can download Mood Scan for $0.99. What’s more, instead of having to go through the trouble of matching up the color to the mood, blue to calm etc., you get a direct answer: Your fingerprint is telling the app that you are feeling “sensitive” right now.

This app consists of a screen with a red oval and a fingerprint in the middle with what looks like neurons grouped together in a synapse hovering over it. You put your finger, toe, or whatever extremity on that oval and the neurons start lighting up as if to give you the impression that your print is being scanned.

Once you place your finger on the oval, it turns green while it’s being processed. Removing your finger means getting an assessment, which could be anything from “happy” to “wants it” (heh, heh). When the screen appears with your result, Facebook and Twitter icons also show up to tempt you to post your mood online for your friends to see. So far I’ve seen, “crazy,” “stupid,” “funny,” “dumb,” “cool,” “naughty,” “sad,” “in the mood,” and “bored.” I mainly get the “bored” result, probably because Mood Scan leaves me in a catatonic state.

The idea for this app is not all bad. The problem I have with it is that it’s so basic that it doesn’t seem like any thought went into the production. Maybe the developers could have taken an actual print of my finger or given a result that is a little more insightful than “sad,” “happy,” or “sensitive.” If I were in elementary school I may be able to appreciate this app more. When you are that young you think that someone actually cares. Playing around with this app can be likened to asking an eight-ball for advice, then shaking it for an answer. Although I don’t see why you would want to, you can put this app on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad.
