iCall

iCall Free VoIP is a free iPhone app that lets you make and receive phone calls over Wi-Fi and 3G right out of the box , and with its paid subscription plans you can also have your own phone number, get push notifications and even get your own voice-mail. Here are the pros and cons of the iCall app and its related services.

PROS:
– Free trial
– Calls can be made over 3G, not just Wi-Fi
– You are given a SIP automatically, no need to go find a SIP provider. things just work right out of the box with a few simple registration steps.
– The service is provided to you for free as a trial so you can test the connection and voice quality before subscribing for a paid plan.
– You get push notifications sent to your iPhone when incoming calls occur. This means you don’t need to have the app open at all times. This is a paid feature.
– iCall has a simple and intuitive user interface unlike related apps such as Fring with an iPhone like dial pad interface and easy access to all your native iPhone Contacts
– Paid member cans pick a local phone number which works in conjuction with your actual iPhone number to make things work seamlessly
– Using iCall you can switch active iPhone conversations to iCall
– Voice-mail is provided to paid members.
– Works with headset on iPod touch.

CONS
– unless you upgrade to a $10/month paid plan, free iCall memberships are very limited, you only get 5 minutes of calls and you have to listen to advertisements before each call.
– No Speaker phone functionality is provided during an active iCall
– During our tests, while the other party didn’t have any issues with our outgoing voice, we noticed the incoming voice sounded somewhat robotic and weak.
– First time registrations of the iCall app require you to have an actual active number on your iPhone which is used to validate your iCall account.
– Might be risky, since you may see fees form your Cell phone company as additional charges.
– Personal phone numbers not available in all 50 states

One Comment to “iCall”

  1. I have found a free voip app that has got all the qualities you wish for. Freephoo is a cool app which allows me to call up my friends for zero cost as all calls to users are free. It works on 3G and WiFi. You can even make calls to land and mobile numbers using this app. Now is really impressive…
