News Feed Elite

Are you a news junkie? Do you need to get your fix morning, mid-morning, afternoon, evening, and night? But do you also value your prime iPhone real estate? You’re in luck. Dr. James Leung, CEO of Smartest Apple has created a news-worthy news app, News Feed Elite, which has mobile bookmarks/links to 196+ news sources. Yes, you read that correctly. 196+ sources in one little app. Are you salivating at that thought yet?

This nifty app provides direct access to regional news, world news, U.S. news, tech news, entertainment news, financial news, sports news, and news on different popular sites. All you need is access to wifi or a 3G network. Then open the app and select from any news source you want. Tap on the X button on the toolbar to maximize the screen, tap on the same area to bring back the toolbar. From the toolbar, you can also lock the rotation, create bookmarks, and adjust other settings by playing around with the toolbar. Fans of apps like News Addict may be unimpressed so far, but News Elite offers so much more than standard tilt-scrolling. It also has ad-blocking, offline reading, instapaper/facebook/twitter integration, and customization. Users can actually delete the news sources they don’t want, and they can also rearrange ones they actually like visiting so they appear at the top. Say buh-bye to scrolling through countless news sources until you find one you actually like. Clutter, begone. But wait, it gets better!!

News Feed Elite

Leung took great care in creating an optimal news experience for users. The app offers slick browsing and turns mobile-unfriendly websites into ones that are actually easy to read. No more super small font and having to zoom with your thumb and pointer finger. And it’s easy to go back and forth between different news sources. Plus, the app offers relatively fast loading times. There’s virtually no lag time to access your favorite news source. Users can also add and delete an unlimited amount of bookmarks. (And yes, the bookmarks can be rearranged too!) You can also lock orientation to prevent rotation from happening during reading, and even view articles in full screen. The homepage site can even be set so it opens up the next time you start News Feed Elite.

This is a fantastic app, but I have two major gripes. One, it is difficult to rearrange and edit the different bookmarks. You’ll have to search through the entire list and edit because there is no fast search and rearranging feature. Secondly, after doing more research on this app (after purchase), I learned that Leung offers a similar app called Start Up! Browser (Ad Blocker) which does all this and costs $0.99. That’s just unfair and wrong.

News Feed Elite is a great app for $1.99, but if I had the chance to re-purchase all over again, I’d go with Start Up! Browser which offers all the features of News Feed Elite but at a better value.

One Comment to “News Feed Elite”

  1. Here’s the explanation for the two similar apps: We tried to update News Feed Elite, but Apple rejected it because we’re using “third party stories”. We were able to update the app just fine for months, until we met this reviewer who refuses to approve our update. So we renamed our update to “Start Up! Browser” and they approved it. We left the app in the store, in case any of our previous buyers needed to download it. Start Up! Browser is on sale for $1. That’s why it’s cheaper at the moment. It is different from News Feed Elite, because it is actually more updated.
