Tunes World Touch review

Tunes World Touch is a new instant rhythm game generator and player from Jessica Lee for the iPhone and iPod touch that sells for $2.99 and is also available as a free version. As opposed to other games like Tap Tap Revenge and Rock Band, Tunes World Touch uses music from your iPod library and in real-time generates the notes and beats that you play along with. While the results are not always perfect, Tunes World Touch does do a great job of it, and playing to your own music feels much more at home, and not to mention free of charge, sort of.

Tunes World Touch uses a point system to convert and play new tracks, 30 points per song/game. You get 300 points to start with. The free version of the app uses 30-50 points per game. You get 5-10 points each time you finish a game. And you can tweet about the game to get 60-70 points 3x per day.

Songs are converted to games in real-time so there is no processing or wait time. You get full access to your iPod library and you can pick any song you want to convert. Games can be created with anywhere from 3 to 8 keys and each can have difficulty of easy, normal, hard, and very hard. You can choose to play in landscape or portrait mode for the larger keys. To be honest once you get past 4 keys it really starts to feel impossible anyway. While playing the album artwork is displayed along with an animated visualizer. The notes that come falling down are colored using basic graphics, and the game gives feedback for good, great, and perfect hits.

Speaking of graphics, the artwork and design of the app is not its strong suit at all. The layout and user interface can definitely use some major cleaning up, as things seem very chaotic. Overall, Tunes World Touch is a nice game to try out, especially the free version, if you’re into rhythm based games. Being that it creates games from your personal music library, TWT is unique and worth a look.
