4Steps review

4Steps is a puzzle game that keeps your mind nimble by challenging you with simplistic yet tricky brainteasers. The app was developed by Blank Inc., for an iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad and it sells for $0.99.

To start with, you get a choice of two sections to delve into: A timed one with an assortment of different types of puzzles and another section with 3 subsections with which you can practice your skills. The three subsections test your ability to put puzzle pieces together, work out basic arithmetic, and think critically.

Each of the three sections has a list of 15 levels that you unlock laterally as long as you complete the preceding puzzle with a high enough score. The puzzles in this part of the app are timed as well but you get much more time (60 seconds) to complete each question. 4Steps uses 4 different images, each getting a tile, that you have to select in order from 1 to 4 according to their correct sequence. On the left side of the game you can watch as your time starts running out and on the right side you get to watch as your score gradually increases. You are tested on everything from unscrambling an image to adding, subtracting, and recognizing the value of fractions. You have to get at least one star or else you fail and have to try the level out again. At any time during the puzzle you can pause and either retry or go back to the menu.

Before using 4Steps I had to go to the app’s page in iTunes to make sure the app was not made for children. I checked to see if it was a child’s game before I completed the first puzzle. Well, there is no question that the game is for adults. It may not look like it at first glance, but the app is hard! There are plenty of levels, 45 total, to keep you occupied and I have found it is the perfect time-killer when you are out and about and looking for something to keep you busy.
