CupicMaze review

Cupic Maze is a game that introduces geometric shapes to the world of puzzler apps. It was developed by Beyond Interactive Inc., costs $1.99, and is compatible with an iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. There is also Cupic Maze Free that you can get your hands on without paying. Do not ask me how the developer came up with the idea for this game. It is essentially a 3-dimensional maze made up of cubes. The cubes are colored so that you can get your bearings and figure out where you need to and cannot go.

You move around a white cube, you try to pick up orange cubes along the way, you are blocked by navy cubes, and your destination is the green cube. You gain 500 extra points for getting all of the orange cubes. Another way to earn extra is to fill up every empty square. There are three levels of difficulty: a 3X3 shape, 4X4 shape, and 5X5 shape. The more blocks there are the more necessary it becomes to strategize. You cannot retrace your steps so one bad move can lead you into a Game Over.

When you move the white cube from block to block it leaves behind a trail of white cubes so that you can know what your path was at all times. Another way to simplify the game is to make full use of the clockwise and counterclockwise rotating viewpoints at the bottom of the screen. Having a clear view of every side of the Cupic object is a main factor in pulling yourself through the game. If you get into the Free-Draw Mode you can make a colorful 3-D object by flicking your fingers across the screen. In Free-Draw you can load templates of different shapes saved into the app or you can make your own with the different colors provided and save it to the app.

Cupic Maze is not the most entertaining app I have ever used but it certainly is not dull. This game requires just enough brainpower keep me from falling asleep without attempting to suck dry my mostly depleted mental energy.
