Doodle Dash! review

Doodle Dash! is a distance game where you use Open Feint to try to get the longest distance possible with your little blue devil friend. Avoid bombs, bats, and collect diamonds and stars. This app is available for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and is released by Beebe Games and sells for $0.99 at the time of writing.

The graphics are in the popular Doodle graph paper/rough sketch style. You control a cute little blue devil/dinosaur thing by tilting the iPhone and your goal is to collect a high score. You do this by just making progress, passing checkpoints, and collecting gems and stars. There are random bombs and monsters that will kill you if you run into them.

This game is super simple and I put it down after about 20 minutes. The graphics are good and the controls are average. You have the ability to warp from one side of the screen to the other by walking to the edge. The trees block the edge of the screen so you can’t see obstacles in them meaning you’ll stay in the center of the screen at all times. Walking to the edge causes random bombs or monsters to fire.

Doodle Dash can be appealing for its simplicity since many people enjoy distance games. The game could be improved with more obstacles, new environments that change as you progress, or more enemies.

Overall, Doodle Dash is perfectly functional and the characters are cute. For 99 cents it’s a good start and I look forward to seeing more content added to the game. I do like the character design of the main blue devil thing and his enemies, so there is lots of potential for this cute colorful distance game.
