JumpRunFrog review

JumpRunFrog is a fun, simple game. You basically try to get your frog out of a water well by hopping from side to side until it’s safely at the top.

In the first stage of the game, try to escape from the bottom of a well by hopping up each side, diagonally. Crisscross your way up to the top, avoiding any thorn balls that are falling down, and eat up any bugs you see.

To jump from one side of the well to the other, just touch the opposite side of the screen and your frog will jump to that spot. There is a pointer that appears next to your frog. It will tell you what angle you are jumping at, and goes from 0 to 90 degrees. For the perfect jump you need to lift off at 45 degrees. If your frog jumps too soon or too late it’ll fall to the bottom. After your about half way up the well, an icon will appear telling you to tap the screen as fast as you can, I have no idea why except to make it a bit more challenging. Getting past this part is difficult. It’s the type of game that leaves you at the edge of your seat, gritting your teeth shouting at your iPhone screen. This is because everything about the game requires you to react fast and time your jumps perfectly.

There are instructions in the app explaining all of this to you as well. Your score is posted after you finish each game, so you can play against yourself. However, it would be nice to see a list of all of the top scores generated from everyone playing.

Music plays in the background and the graphics are way more elaborate then the objective of the game. In each stage there are different walls to climb up with a different backdrop and color. It’s easy to see the thorn balls you need to avoid, the only catch is they are falling fast, so your reaction time needs to be up to speed. I like how the developer, Li Jian, put the pointer next to the frog, instead of at the bottom of the screen.

This app serves its purpose, it’s entertaining and let’s you get your mind off of things for a while. It’s just easy enough to get better at after playing it a few times, and hard enough to test your speed and accuracy skills.
