WordWeaver review

Word games on the iPhone have come a long way, and WordWeaver from Mini Monster Media, is pushing the envelope yet again with a brilliant iPhone word game. So you know there are hundreds of other word puzzle apps in the App Store, right? What makes WordWeaver special? WordWeaver lets you wave your way out of situations by sliding letters on a woven board that you can morph to your heart’s content.

The game is played on either a 4×4 or 5×5 lattice board. You can move any row or column by touching the arrows, to reveal new letters and bonuses. The new update from WordWeaver now lets you shuffle the letters by shaking your iPhone. To find words, just slide your finger from one letter to the next, in any direction, and pick up your finger when you’re done to submit the word. You can draw pretty much any patter you want as long as your lines don’t intersect, making finding words fun and quite dynamic. The gameplay is fluid and responsive to touch. The graphics are sharp colorful and have a tribal feel to them. The soundtrack adds to this feel with a wonderful drum and chant music which notify you with cool alerts when you get a word right or wrong. Enter the Temple of Inscriptions and weave your way around the hidden boards. Along the way you’ll run across power-ups such as Aztec gold and snake gems, igniting rings of fire, sacrificial blade, and other obstacles in your path that earn you more points. You get bonus points for longer words.

You can play WordWeaver in career mode or for a quick game try the Quick play mode. Show off your high scores via OpenFeint, as you play your way through the 30 levels. WordWeaver is a unique and engaging game for the iPhone that blends arcade style action, ancient themes, and the classic word puzzle. We found ourselves playing this game more than we planned to, due to its addictive nature. There are really no flaws to the game, and the developer is actively updating it with new features which is always a big plus. Perhaps adding some different theme options might be an option, but other than that WordWeaver is a clear winner and should excel in the App Store.
