ZOOZbeat

Feeling creative? Why not make some awesome music. ZOOZbeat is music making iPhone app that lets you create original tracks over beat loops using from series of instruments using simple tap or shake gestures on your device. Tracks you create can then be shared on the ZOOZbeat mobile website for others to listen to. With ZOOZbeat you can also take professional songs from select musicians including Too $hort and Cato, and reCreate them by remixing the instruments.

Using the ZOOZbeat app is almost self explanatory although you’re given some instructions in the app. You just select a beat from the play menu, and the loop starts to play. Then you have a series of six instruments plus the microphone that you can play to reCreate your own sequences. To add notes you can either shake the iPhone or tap the screen. Shaking gently vs. more rigorously produce different sounding notes. Tilt the iPhone to landscape mode and you can see the entire series of octaves where you can tap, stretch, drag and move notes around. Use this with your recorded vocal notes to create some amazing mixes.

Swipe to choose a different instrument. Using the Mic you can also record your voice or any other samples you want to add to your track. Instruments can be swapped out to pick the ones you want. The volume of each instrument can be adjusted individually. Each track can be locked once complete. You can create multiple sequences per track and loop the entire song or just one sequence at a time. ZOOZbeat supports a total of 8 sequences, so with some practice and trial and error, you can actually create entire songs.

Once you’re done you can showcase your work on the ZOOZbeat site. You even get your own “artist page” to show off your new tracks. There is even a multiplayer mode where you and a friend can co-create a track together simultaneously, or if you want you can also pass the iPhone back and forth.

The loop tracks provided include a wide variety of genres including Hip-Hop, Rock, Salsa, Pop and more. Go into ZOOZ radio to listen to tracks uploaded by other members or your own uploaded songs.

There is not a shortage of iPhone apps for creating music. ZOOZbeat is one of the few that has found a successful recipe that brings excitement and fun into the mix with the ability to create amazingly original songs using natural physics based gestures for beginners and fine grained tuning for the pros.
