AIM on the iPhone 3g is horrible. if you go back to your homescreen you will be automatically logged off and reconnected the moment you open the application again. when you are in the homescreen you will not recieve any im’s until you click on the aim app again. if you did get an im while you were not at the aim app it will appear as a blank message. in order for the aim to successfully work you must be on the application at all times which is simply impossible. it definetly needs improvement and I hope apple will fix all these quirks

How do i logoff of the AIM application when I’m on my iPod Touch?! there should be a button if there isn’t one. I don’t want to stay logged in forever.

AIM FOR IPHONE 3G SUCKS! like the previous guy posted, once your taken back to your home screen (1 minute or so) you are not logged in any more.. you will not be notified of an incoming IM until you physically touch the aim icon on the home screen and wait for AIM to load up. Had some one sent you an IM while your phone went back to the home screen you will then receive the IM upon login, THAT COULD BE HOURS LATER!!! FIX IT! we want to be alerted INSTANTLY,, ,hence INSTANT message..

there are preferences under settings for logging off on exit or not.

To Kristin, you can log off on the iPod Touch by hitting the “My Info” key at the bottom and then “Sign Out.”

and like AJ said, if you go to “Settings” then to “AIM” you can choose if it logs you off among exiting the application or not.

even when you go to the aol settings and change it so it wont sign off on exiting it still signs you off. I am very disappointed because i had a sidekick before this and then purchased the iphone and now i see the aim doesn’t stay on :( very upset of this.

Man this sucks I had a sidekick of and now that I bought the iPhone I realize the aim disconnects as soon as you go back to the home screen. Ugh! It’s impossible to stay in one app for the whole time on a 3g. They need a serious update and one where you get alerts recieve ims too!

They still haven’t fixed sign off problems!!!!

    Jeff says:

It’s not a problem that can easily be fixed. This is because of how Apple has designed their OS. There are no background processes allowed. Not sure if this was done to save the battery. But until Apple allows background processes, this will not be available. Hopefully it will be available in firmware 3.0. As of this posting we are in firmware 2.2.
