The GrooveMaker Techno app for iPhone and iPod touch gives you a professional 8 track music creation environment with advanced and powerful features that allow musicians and music lovers to come up with unique techno compositions. The app comes preloaded with 4 music packs that are unpacked before first time to use. These packs contain a large amount of various loops that you use to come up with your own songs. The songs included with GrooveMaker techno are Space Trip, Isotope 01, Matter, and Moonrise. The first time you use a song, GrooveMaker goes through a process of expanding the loops which takes about 2 minutes or so. Once this is done you are taken to the mixing board.

The main page of GrooveMaker contains 8 buttons that represent the 8 tracks. Tap any track to assign a loop to it by simply picking one from the list on the right side. Loops are categorized by Loop, Bass, Line, Pad, Bass, Percussion, and Fx. Once you have some loops picked out tap Groove to hear them. In the track menu you can easily mute it out, go solo, or clear it out. You can also change the BPM of the song from the Tempo menu. If you want some ideas, use the random buttons on the right to try out some interest possibilities. You can change master volume, or even adjust the volume and pan per track. Finally there is a very elaborate sequence manager that you can use to create, use, reuse, and manage your mixes.

When you are done export your mix into a .wav file. GrooveMaker actually runs a local server on the iPhone and gives you a local URL that you can browse to on port 5555 from your LAN to download the exported music file so you can enjoy your masterpiece and share it with your friends.

If you register with IK Multimedia, you also get an extra free track. You can also purchase additional track packs are from within the GrooveMaker app to add more variety to your compositions. These pack contain 4 songs each and will give you the ability to create songs in other genres such as Club, House, Hip-Hop, and Trance. The packs sell for about $10 each using in app purchase.

Overall, we were absolutely blown away with the GrooveMaker Techno iPhone app. Having packed in so much into it, yet keeping it so easy to use, the developers are to be commended for their fantastic job on this piece of software. The only thing missing from this app that would make it into a no brainer would be if it allowed you to create your own loops. GrooveMaker is a joy to use, and flexible enough to allow users to create thousands of different songs. It really just seems as though your imagination is the limit here. Be sure to get a copy of GrooveMaker if you are looking for a powerful music making app for your iPhone or iPod touch.
