Shopkick

Shopkick for iPhone is here and you can now get some free points and rewards (kickbucks) for walking into and checking in at specific stores, like Best Buy, American Eagle, & Sports Authority. You can also score Facebook Credits and win instant gift certificates. The app works hand in hand with devices placed in various stores, for example Best Buy. As you walk around the store you might get notified of specials for the department you are in. Say for example you’re in Home Audio, Best Buy could then send you a notification about how there is sale on all receivers. Macy’s and Simon malls in NY, San Francisco and LA have all jumped on board with Shopkick and more cities are coming soon.

Shopkick

The technology the Shopkick uses to follow you around the store is not GPS as most would assume. The Shopkick app is actually using the microphone in your iPhone to pick up inaudible sounds being put out by speakers placed in the stores like Macy’s and Best Buy.

If you’re a “check-in” junkie and don’t mind sharing your location with the world, Shopkick is a wonderful idea for an app that you should get on board with. Its free, and you could score something for free. Make sure to read the privacy policy in for the Shopkick service in advance. Here’s a small blurb from it:

In order to take advantage of an incentive being offered by an Affiliated Partner through the Services, you must provide the Affiliated Partner with identifying information (which may include Personal Information) at the point of sale, to enable the Affiliated Partner to verify that you have a shopkick Account. …. If you do not wish to share Personal Information with an Affiliated Partner, you can choose not to provide your store loyalty card number and not to take advantage of the offer when entering into transactions with that Affiliated Partner.

  1. It’s a pretty cool app
Love collecting points but it’s a slow process.
Use code mule260 after downloading for a free 200 kickbucks

  2. Its a great app. I love it. Dont belive all of these liers saying that you will get 300 kickbucks or a $25, or $50 Itunes gift card. They just want to sucker you in so you both get 50 kickbucks. Thats what you get no matter what code you use!! 50 kickbucks!! Use my truthful code, not all of these liers codes! Bee3437
    Truthfully,
    Bee3437

  3. I love shopkick, it’s a new and easy way to get points and get rewards! Enter my promo code lime3367 for 100 shopkick points! Any one offering any higher is a fake so don’t be fooled, you’re only able to get 100 points right now. Happy shopkicking!!

  4. This is a great app!! As long as you don’t try to actually earn the points that are possible or redeem your points.
After scanning and checking in and walking in for about a month and following all of their rules I finally had enough points to get an iTunes giftcard and a BestBuy giftcard. However as I scanned the “Check your upgrade” code that Kyle, one of their mobile phone guys, provided me so that I could get the final 100 points I needed for my 2 gift cards my phone goes red and says I broke some rule! I send Shopkick an email asking about what was wrong because I just checked in a minute ago, got the walk-in bonus points, and am actually standing there talking to a BestBuy employee (I even gave them the store address and his employee number) when I get banned.
They didn’t even bother to send a real response … just a generic statement of the rules.

So I’m left to conclude that they’re more than happy to track you, get you to scan the products, see their advertisements so they can make money … but as soon as you try to get what they promised you they’d rather just ban you with no explanation.

  5. It’s a scam. They give you kicks, then will ban your account so they don’t have to honor them
