The Oscars

This free download is the official iPhone app from Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. It is broken down into 3 tabs: Home, Oscars, and Academy. From the Oscars tab you can navigate through the nominated films and select your pick in each category, view the trailer or view details about the movie.

The Oscars app is a great app to use as a reference point for all of the nominated films. Now you can learn about all the films in one place prior to the awards show, or even during it. Not all the movies have movie trailers, as you might have guessed the smaller films are without one. This this is probably the only gripe we have about this app, since it only gives the bigger movies the chance to get even more exposure, while the smaller movies won’t get much attention without a trailer.

From the Academy tab you can view the database of movies from the past, and view them by decade or by category, which is a very useful feature. You can also read the news, view photo galleries, and watch academy related videos.

For what it provides, the Oscars iPhone app the unique and effective way to tie user opinions to predict real-world events. Now if someone ever wants to discuss the nominees for say the Best Short Subject Documentary you can pull them all up on your iPhone in no time and read about each movie with only a few taps.
