Samurai: Way of the Warrior is an impressive sword fighting iPhone game from Mad Finger Games, with original comic style graphics, smooth game play, powerful sound effects and music, and a great story line.
Your character is a skillful sword fighting samurai in the ancient Japan during chaotic times of war, Daisuke Shimada who is wandering around and has no fear, nor shortage of confidence in his ability to overpower any opponent. He must eventually defeat the evil Daimyo Hattoro who spreads terror and fear around the country. The plot is reveled little by little throughout the game using comic style storytelling and speech bubbles, which is really quite well done. The drama thickens, involving a beautiful girl who Daisuke meets, and promises to help her out.
Now for the technical details: To move the character is very simple and natural, and is almost like pulling him in the direction you want him to move by dragging you finger on the screen in a path. The maps are 3D cartoons, with your view coming in from the top over the clouds, but the camera angles change during play to make more exciting action. Samurai allows you to discover various routes giving you options to reach the final boss in each level. Visit several unique environments in the Japan in a feudal 16th century setting. To slash your opponents you swipe the iPhone screen in various strokes and watch Daisuke slice and dice his enemies into pieces.
There is a decent amount of blood and gore in this game combined with gruesome painstaking screams as your enemies are decapitated or chopped in half. You are able to improve you skills by unlocking new moves as you go on. A Dojo mode, lets you fight in area sparing enemies in the rounds. Samurai is an original iPhone fighting game with a deep storyline, detailed graphics, and lifelike gameplay and should be well received by fans of Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry or Heavenly Sword.
