Happy Virus review

It’s winter, which means ’tis the season for the cold and flu to run rampant through the population. While a virus spreading like wildfire is something you’d normally try to cut off at the head, it is exactly the action you want to encourage in AppMania’s game app, Happy Virus. You’re incubating a virus inside a test tube filled with normal cells, and you want the entire batch to be infected as soon as possible.

You’re given a handful of options to start infecting; choose one by tapping on the blinking cell. Now that you have your starting point, it’s time to get to work! Use the base cells in the test tube on the right side of the screen to do your dirty work. Tapping a base cell will turn all the cells on board of the same color into infected cells–but only if they’re touching an infected cell. In order to move on to the next level, the entire board has to be one color; be careful in the last few moments, though, because mindless tapping will usually lead to the death of entire batch. The faster you get the whole board infected, the more points you’ll receive.

I imagine a virus would be happy while infecting an entire batch of cells, but I certainly wouldn’t be too joyous if that action were happening in me. The gameplay of Happy Virus isn’t hard to grasp (although the instructions might be) once you get the hang of it, and the rest of the app seems to follow suit. The only reason this game is so colorful is because of the gameplay, and the music is typical background music (a.k.a. not all that exciting). The only real tricky part is the end, where you’ll have to make sure of what you’re choosing. Other than that, unless you’re particularly fascinated by changing colors, there are probably other games more worth your money than Happy Virus.
