Friends Chain review

Friends Chain is a gaming app that puts your matching skills to the test. It was brought to us by Latte Software, and is compatible with an iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. It costs $0.99, and there is also a lite version offered for free.

This app is not your basic matching game. You do have to find pairs and place them together in order for them to disappear, but you cannot match them up unless there are no more than two 90-degree turns between them. Another challenge in the game is that it is timed. If you cannot figure out a way to match up all of the pairs in the amount of time given, then it is Game Over.

You are first given 124 seconds, then 118 seconds and as you rise in levels the time you have to complete the challenge decreases. If you get stuck at any point you can use cheats that are given to help you through the game. You are given 2 hints, 2 pairs, and 2 mash ups. Once you use one you have to wait a certain amount of time before using another one so if you need more than one it eats into your game time. The hint tool is self-explanatory, the pairing tool will pair up one or two for you, and the mash up tool resorts the figures so it will be easier for you to place them together. The sound for this app is god awful so you are going to want to switch that off immediately when you start using Friends Chain.

There is a signpost on the left side of the screen that keeps track of your time, level, and score. The icons are little creatures, animals, patterns, hearts, and anime-looking characters. Every level produces different icons and a different background.

This is the perfect game for times when you need something mindless to do to pass the time as quickly as possible. There are plenty of levels, so you can keep going until you are safely through whatever monotonous and mundane situation you were caught in. Friends Chain has gotten me through some painfully boring lectures and plane rides.
