eBoy FixPix review

I love the eBoy FixPix iPhone app! Although the title may be a bit confusing at first glance, it couldn’t be more fitting as the game is about fixing pictures. Brought to us by developers, Delicious Toys, this app is just that: Delicious. You are given 100 scrambled pictures and it is up to your powers of perception to solve the puzzle by titling your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad screen until the picture clicks into place. Sometimes it is only one aspect of the picture that is off-kilter and sometimes it is the entire image. The only problem I have with this game is the sound, which is jarring and inconsistent, but that is easily taken care of by pushing back the silence button on the side of my phone.

The key to climbing the levels of this game quickly is to have a steady hand and an open mind. The style of the graphics has a Japanese Anime feel and the images are of everything from robots to construction sites, from monsters to the Oscars. Naturally, as the levels get higher so does the difficulty. If the challenges ever get too tough you have the option of skipping to the next level. When you succeed in connecting the picture a cloud silhouette appears with the word “Fixed” and your level count listed in it. Simultaneously, another cloud appears at the bottom right hand corner of the screen offering to post the picture you have just completed onto Facebook.

The concept of this game is refreshingly creative. This app is so easy to get the hang of that it is the only one I’ve seen so far without directions built in. Although I can only take eBoy a little bit at a time before I start getting dizzy, I can’t get enough of it. 100 may seem like a lot of levels but I could easily play this game for another 1000. There is something very satisfying about putting a ripped, skewed, or broken picture back together. For $1.99 you can see for yourself what kind of joy this game will bring to your doldrums or monotonous daily activities.
