Battle Bears review

Battle Bears from SkyVu Pictures is a science fiction based cartoon shooter game for the iPhone starring one angry brown bear named Oliver and a bunch of cute cuddly pink bears that want to hug him to death. If you’ve ever felt too smothered by someone and don’t like too much affection, this game’s for you.

Your job is to use various weapons and shoot the pink bears as they come hobbling over the grassy hills towards you. Just drag the onscreen target on top of your enemy and tap to fire. Watch as they squirt out rainbows into the sky as their cute little heads go flying up int the air. Each bear can be taken down with either 1 shot to the head or 2 to the body.

Your bear starts out behind a bag of sands and as the levels increase, he figures out new ways of turning the remains of the bears into weapons for the following rounds. For example you’ll use the rainbow remains as fluid to fire a Flamethrower. Tap on the weapon icon on the upper left during gameplay to switch between available weapons.

There are also 5 boss trials as you go through the levels. For example a bunch of barbershop singing bears will pop out of holes in the ground and you have to kill them before they start to sing you to death with their rays of sound. It’s kind of like whack-a-mole with guns.

You can play Battle Bears in 3 difficulties in story mode (easy, medium, or hard), and there is also a locked survival mode you can play later on. There are options for setting the aiming control to be either absolute, or relative. You can also choose to turn off the blood effects if it bothers you. Battle Bears saves you progress so you can continue the next time you return.

Overall, battle bears is a different type of shooter game for the iPhone that will appeal probably to casual gamers. The graphics are unique and the inter-level stories are funny and entertaining to watch. Complete with a fun soundtrack and brilliant custom animations, Battle Bears is a nice break from the norm. You can even buy the Battle Bears full soundtrack on iTunes featuring original electronic music. If you enjoyed playing Zombie Bikini Babes from Outer Space, you will love Battle Bears.
