NBA Hotshot review

NBA Hotshot from Freeverse is a fun and stress free arcade style basketball shooting game for the iPhone. How much money did you spend playing those basketball games at the arcades with the little skinny rims when you were a kid? Now thanks to the folks at Freeverse and Flick sports, you can grab a copy of NBA Hotshot and try your luck on the iPhone, for only a dollar.

The game has 2 modes in which you get a set of 4 balls to shoot at a basket in a mini cage somewhere resembling an arcade or bar. In classic mode, you have 40 seconds to make as many baskets as you can using the 4 balls. You get 2 points for the close shots, and then about half way through the game the basket slides back for the 3 point shots. When you see glowing basketballs, use those and sink a shot to score double points.

If playing against the clock isn’t your thing, try the Three Strikes mode, where you can take your time, and your only task is not to miss more than 2 times. In this mode the basket also never moves back, so you’re making either a 2 ball, or the bonus 4 ball.

In both modes, after you finish, the game tallies your score and if you did good, awards you some trophies which you keep in your Gallery. The better your score the better the gifts. Since this is an NBA game, you get basketballs with team logos on them, as well as other arcade type prizes like popcorn. Apparently the better your score, the better the team you get the ball for. For example if you doo badly you might get a Wizards ball, and if you’re balling NBA Hotshot awards you LAKERS and Celtics gear.

Overall, NBA Hotshot is a nice little game to have for quick play and is a great companion to the previously released Skee-Ball game from the same developer, for fans of basketball and old school arcade games.
