We just got word on this alpha version of the Ajax powered Flickr from the Yahoo! folks. Using your iPhone, checkout this super slick Ajax version of Flickr designed specifically for the iPhone. You can explore photos, search for photos and check out interesting photos.
The URL is http://i.m.yahoo.com/a/flickr
Sign in with your account and now you can browse your own Flickr photo collection with a brilliant iPhone user interface. You see 3 of your photos and 3 of your contact’s photos on the home page. From here you can drill down to see more pics in each category. The app uses ajax to load preload stuff in the background which makes browsing around feel fast. Your contacts are listed nicely using iPhone like rows.

When you get the a full view page of any picture you see a few task buttons. From here you can 1) Write a comment 2) Add to your favorites 3) Email the photo 4) get more information on the photo including viewing all of its comments 5) Play a slideshow of the photos surrounding it, and 6) go to the next and previous photos. You can play a slideshow of any group of photos using the play button on the bottom. Finally you can check your latest activity and your favorites.
It looks like the photos are resized specifically for iPhone viewing, with a maximum width of 316px, so this makes surfing the site over Edge reasonably fast, and a Wi-Fi connection is not required. Now you just need to find the extra time and browse away on your iPhone.
We can’t wait to see how this app develops further in the next version. Would be great to see editing, renaming, organizing, and uploading features next. It would also be great if we could flick through the photos instead of having to use the small navigation buttons on the bottom.
You must be using an iPhone to see the iPhone version of this app. Try it here
